Fall in love in your lounge this Valentine’s Day

At-home Date Night Ideas

As all the days appear to be blending into one, we think it’s important to mark special occasions to give ourselves a much-needed lift during this strange time. And with the most romantic day of the year just around the corner, whatever your situation, we have plenty of ideas to make the day extra special - all in the comfort of your own home, of course.

Whether you’re single and living with friends, or you want to take the opportunity to inject some romance into your relationship or you’re after something fun to do with all the family, Valentine’s Day is about being with the ones you love. If the past year has taught us anything, it’s that life is about embracing the little things so there’s no need for grand, sweeping gestures. A movie night, snuggled under a warm blanket with the dogs or a home-cooked meal and your favourite tipple will be enough to warm your heart and your home.

Night at the movies

We really miss going to the cinema but with endless TV shows and films to watch on a plethora of streaming channels, it’s super easy to create that cinema-feel at home and it’s a great one to do with the kids or on a galentine’s night with friends. We highly recommend switching phones off and dimming the lights for that full cinema experience. Why not add our Box Office Light Box, £52, too so you really feel like you’re stepping into your local picture house, minus the overpriced snacks. Grab some popcorn and snuggle under our Large Recycled Wool Blanket, £27. Made from recycled wool that has been re-spun, each one is different, creating a truly unique piece for your home that will look seriously chic draped over an armchair or banister. You could even spread it out on the floor for a cosy picnic-style setup, just like an outdoor cinema event, without having to actually be outdoors in the freezing cold. Even better!

Afternoon tea

Cake, scones AND endless cups of tea/champagne (delete as appropriate), what’s not to love about having afternoon tea? We may not be able to spend it in a plush London hotel but that doesn’t mean we can’t add a little fanciness to our own front rooms. If you’ve mastered lockdown banana bread and you consider yourself an aspiring Bake-Off contestant, why not make an event out of it? It’s a great one to do with the kids and we have these cute Rusty the Fox Cup Cake Kits, £6 to get the fun started. For a quaint ‘grandma’s kitchen’ aesthetic, we love mismatched crockery and we have lots of different mugs that will do the trick, including our sophisticated new range of gold trimmed 'Hugs' or 'XOXO' £15 designs. Mix with our Art Print Dinner Plates, £10 each. Their whimsical style is perfect for an afternoon tea setup and there are seven different designs to choose from, including ‘To the moon and back’ and ‘You are my sun, my moon and all of my stars’ for the romantic touch. Finish off with our bloomin’ beautiful Dutch Floral Coasters, £7 for a set of six.

Dinner and Drinks

If you’ve read our blog post on how to create your own at-home bar then you might already be well on your way to mastering that cosy cocktail club feeling. Valentine’s Day is a good excuse to make an effort with dinner, whether you want to cook something new from scratch or give yourself a night off with a takeaway. Avoid the usual dinner on your laps in front of the telly situation, and lay out the table to get that proper restaurant feel. Set the ambience and light one of our gorgeous candles. We have a selection of scented ones as well as statement-makers that will make great table centre pieces such as our Sitting Monkey and Leopard Candle Holders £23. If you’re after more of a late-night bar kinda vibe, then we have the perfect decoration – our new Love Heart Neon on Concrete Base £65.  Guaranteed to inject some fun to your kitchen or dining area, it’s making us want to hit the clubs just looking at it. But we’ll just have to settle for a kitchen disco instead. And why not entertain yourselves with our Jonathan Adler designed Safari Jigsaw Puzzle £35 too. A fun one to do alone or with friends.

It’s really love at first sight with every product we sell at Myles From Home so we hope you feel the same way and have found some inspiration for February 14th and beyond.
