Pair of Gift Boxed Twisted Absinthe Glasses
These mouth blown Absinthe glasses are a reproduction of the Torsade (which translates as 'twisted' in French). The Torsade was the most popular Absinthe glass in the French bars prior to prohibition (1915), and remains the most used shape of glass for this drink.
Like the Pontarlier glass, this one designed with a reservoir to guide the measure of Absinthe - the bubble at the bottom of the glass. This was designed so the barkeeper would know how much to serve, and the customer would know they were getting what they were paying for! The reservoir measures 50ml, (double the size of the Pontarlier - a possible indication of its popularity!) which was the standard measure for a glass this size .
What we love: Obviously, you don't have to drink Absinthe from them: they'd work well for any short. (We use them as bedside water glasses for guests - paired with the glass carafe!) However you use them, we think it's the height of sophistication to own your own set of glasses made to consume such a legendary and mysterious beverage - what a talking point!
The glasses are hand blown glass and each one measures 17.1 (H) x 7.6(diameter) and holds 29.5cl
They are sold as a pair, and come in a lovely gift box, decorated in silver typography on a black back ground, and lined with a copy of an antique French bar bill.
